15. Sao Paulo (84,200 millionaires)
Brazil’s largest city is home to a third of the country’s millionaires. Sao Paulo is arguably the most important city in South America for banking and commerce.
14. Zurich (84,400 millionaires)
The largest city in Switzerland is home to a number of insurers and financial institutions. Around a third of the country’s richest people live in Zurich
13. Beijing (84,700 millionaires)
The capital of China and one of the biggest cities in the world with a population of more than 20 million. 16% of the country’s millionaires live here.
12. Osaka (93,200 millionaires)
Osaka is one of two Japanese cities to make the top 15. It’s home to a number of the biggest technology companies in the world, including Panasonic, Sharp and Sanyo. At 8%, a relatively small number of the country’s millionaires live here.
11. Paris (96,400 millionaires)
It may give you a little joy to know that London beats Paris in terms of the number of rich people (to find out by how much keep scrolling…) The French capital has more than 40% of the country’s millionaires.
10. San Francisco (112,700 millionaires)
America has the highest number of cities in the top 30. San Francisco is an important banking and financial centre for the United States, but at 2% holds only a small proportion of the country’s millionaires.
9. Mexico City (118,800 millionaires)
As the capital of Mexico its strategic position makes it an important global financial centre. At 70% the city has a huge proportion of the country’s millionaires.
8. Frankfurt (120,000 millionaires)
It’s home to a number of important global banks including Deutsche Bank, as well as the European Central Bank. It has around 15% of the country’s millionaires.
7. Chicago (128,100 millionaires)
The second city in America to appear in the top 15 and the third largest in the country. It has only 3% of the country’s millionaires.
6. Los Angeles (159,800 millionaires)
Home to Hollywood and America’s movie and entertainment industry, Los Angeles has 4% of the country’s millionaires.
5. Hong Kong (164,500 millionaires)
Alongside London and New York it is considered to form the axis of the world’s global economy. As its own province it has 100% of the millionaires.
4. Singapore (225,000 millionaires)
A sovereign city state, Singapore is one of the world’s leading commerial hubs. It’s home to 100% of its millionaires.
3. Tokyo (226,500 millionaires)
The capital of Japan, the world’s third largest economy. Tokyo makes it to number three on the list – and is home to more Michelin star restaurants than anywhere else. It has 20% of the country’s richest people.
2. New York (300,100 millionaires)
Not quite hitting the top spot, but still the Big Apple holds a sizeable pool of wealth – the number amounts to 7% of the country’s total millionaires.
1. London (339,200 millionaires)
Yep, it’s dear London where most millionaires in the world can be found in one metropolis, with more than two-fifths of Britain’s richest calling the capital home. This means that the number of millionaires in London is more than the entire population of Newcastle.
