Miss Philippines, Megan Young, is crowned as the new Miss World in the 2013 Miss World pageant in Bali, Indonesia. The 23 year old, beat 126 other contestants and pledged to be “the best Miss World ever”.
“No words! Thank you so much for everyone for choosing me. I promise to be the best Miss World ever,” Young said.
Miss France, Marine Lorphelin, was second runner up and Miss Ghana, Carranzar Naa Okailey Shooter, is third runners up. She was crowned by the former Miss World, Miss China.
With the crown, Megan Young became the first Filipina to win the title, “Miss World”.
Young was born in the United States and moved to the Philippines at age 10. She is a college student and an actress in the Philippines, where she has appeared on screen and as presenter since the age of 15.
Top 10 of 2013 Miss World: Ukraine, South Sudan, Brazil, the Philippines, France, Cameroon, Cyprus, England, Italy and the United States — were announced earlier this week.
The pageant was originally set in Jakarta but was then moved to the island of Bali after protesters denounced the event. In an attempt to appease religious concerns, the pageant scrapped the swimsuit competition and replaced it with a less-revealing beachwear attire.
